Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome back to the 2010 – 2011 school year, and a special welcome to our new families! The summer has gone quickly with so many exciting changes for our students. The sixth grade classroom was moved to the second floor.  The room is newly renovated and the wall was opened to provide an additional room for our middle school students.  Mr. Bill Gass worked hard on the renovations and Mrs. Kilburn has spent MANY hours decorating the room.  Our middle school students will now have all of their classrooms on the same level for ease in changing classes.  This will also give them their own, much deserved,  “Middle School” section of the building.

Renovations
Our fifth grade classroom is moving to the former sixth grade classroom.  Mrs. Stewart will be teaching this class.

Cracked and flaking plaster, a dark room, and a storage area full of used desks, was the impetus to begin a clean-up project during the summer. Our goal was to move the music room to the former “chapel” space.  As we prepared for the move, we realized our students could benefit from an affordable fine arts program with additional classes provided after school by professionals.  Thanks to Brent Rewa who agreed to oversee the renovation at a reduced cost, and utilize volunteers whenever possible.  So far approximately 75 people have been involved in this very special project that is creating a beautiful space for our children.  Our target date for completion is August 1st!

It is obvious God is guiding this project!  Several professional musicians, our art teacher, a ballroom dance instructor, and a professional chef have committed to teaching our Fine Arts classes. Mrs. Katie Rewa has agreed to direct this new program. The generosity of many has certainly provided blessings for all!

And, the blessings continue!  Mrs. Paola Preble, Mrs. Ginger Mock and Mr. Greg Reyes are sharing their technology skills with our students.  Middle School parents are providing donations to set up a multi-media studio for our students to learn video production, year book development, and web design. Our new media area will be located in the former conference room (which was rarely used and will be better utilized for our students).

New Staff
We are welcoming two new teachers this year!  Mrs. Christine Poulson will be teaching our technology classes for our lower grades.  (Mrs. Jill Kilburn will continue teaching technology classes for our Middle School.)  And, Frances Richardson will be teaching our First Grade.  Both of these teachers are highly qualified and will be a strong addition to St. Michael Academy.

May God bless you as we begin this new year!

Deborah Suddarth, Principal
